Health and emergencies
For medical emergencies and life-threatening illnesses, call 113.
In Norway, there is a system that allocates each person a general practitioner (GP) and medical centre. This unfortunately does not allow for a casual drop-in appointment from a visitor. If you require urgent medical assistance, you can either contact the A & E department at the University Hospital of Northern Norway, "Legevakten" or Aleris (see more information below).
“Legevakten” (Medical emergencies) is located at the University Hospital of North Norway and can be reach via phone number +47 116 117. You can also go to Sykehusveien 30, 9019 Tromsø. (In some maps you have to specify the postal code in order to get the right location).

Pharmacy
There are several pharmacies located around the city centre and within the shopping centres.
The pharmacies at the shopping centres remain open during the opening hours of the shopping centre. In the city centre Nerstranda Shopping Centre is open from 10am until 8pm (10:00-20:00).
Vitusapotek Svanen Tromsø (Killengrensgate 5 Austadbygget) is an Emergency pharmacy, and is open on Sundays and public holidays from 6pm until 8pm (18.00-20.00).
Although the pharmacies stock most of what you will require, some medications are more restricted in Norway than other countries. Consequently, we recommend that you ensure you have enough medications with you for the length of your journey as some heart medications and other essential medications cannot be obtained without a local doctor’s prescription.
